Moncler Genius opens Milan Fashion Week

MonclerGenius opens Milan Fashion Week

Yesterday Milan Fashion Week opened with a mastrodont of a fashion presentation held by Moncler. Introducing the ‘Moncler Genius’ project for fall/winter 2018, in which eight (8!) designers, or fashion houses, collaborated with the brand. Our personal favorite are the designs by Pierpaolo Piccioli, the creative director at Valentino. He transformed the, now so very trendy, ‘puffa coat’ into a couture-like-cape silhouette, using beautiful color combinations. (see those below)

Graig Green and the Grenoble line

Also a personal favorite are the designs by Graig Green. Mr Green created Super Men, Transformers, Space Travelers, Polar Voyagers or whatever you want to name them: he took the concept of protective-wear to the max! Continue reading

Mono Japan in Amsterdam

Mono Japan in Amsterdam

MONO JAPAN is a celebration of contemporary Japanese craft and design. It is an event and a platform devoted to sophisticated beauty grounded in tradition. Okay! We, Mimi Berlin Blogger Team, went to this Japanese event for the first time ever.

Sugicodama

We were stunned by so much traditional arts & crafts in one building. You must know; we have a complete different image of Japan in our minds: the colorful and tech-forward Japan. But we did spent a long time stroking the ‘Sugicodama’ cedarwood sculptures by Shimpei Arima; they were amazingly soft to the touch!

Mono Japan can be visited through February 19, 2018 at the Lloyd hotel & cultural embassy, Oostelijke Handelskade 34 in Amsterdam.

Christopher Bailey gave Burberry the Rainbow Check

Christopher Bailey gave Burberry the Rainbow Check

Christopher Bailey has been working for 17 years at the luxury brand Burberry, both as creative-director and later on also as CEO. He was responsible for the very succesful revamping of this classic brand, which is of course famous for it’s gabardine trench coats; lined with the, even better known, trademark plaid in beige, black and red. (created in 1924 and officially named ‘Nova check’).

The Rainbow Check

Mr Bailey is leaving the brand in March 2018 and will leave the company completely by the end of 2018. The last collection under his supervision: The February 2018 Show, is not only a gift to Burberry-Lovers but also to the LGBTQ+ community. The collection was dedicated “to and in support of, some of the best and brightest organizations supporting LGBTQ+ youth around the world”. There has never been a more important time to say that in our diversity lies our strength and our creativity.’ – Christopher Bailey

And so it happend: ‘The Rainbow Check’ was created. Iconic! Christopher Bailey Burberry Rainbow Check

SoGoodToWear Cashmere

SoGoodToWear Cashmere

SoGoodToWear (SGTW) is a new Dutch cashmere brand. Not your average brand, no! SGTW is a sustainable fashion label which owns a goat herd in the higher regions of Nepal The goats provide for the high quality cashmere used by SGTW. The knitted collections are designed in the Netherlands by Mark van Vorstenbos, and are made by cashmere knitters in a fair-trade knitting factory in Nepal. Maybe needless to mention (but we will anyway) SoGoodToWear is a fair-trade brand which uses innovative and ethical ways to breed and herd their goats without causing any environmental damage.

The imported goats get their own scarf, with a portrait illustrated by Machteld Schouten. Above the first one; it’s ‘Cappucino’ the goat. The second goat, ‘Mr Gaga’, also has been portrayed but that’s still a secret…… We, at Mimi Berlin, took care of the styling for the webshop, photography was done by JW Kaldenbach. Ofcourse it’s ‘styling light‘ but we just want to show all the work we do at MB-Modebüro.
