Violet Chachki on the Runway at Moschino F/W 2018

Violet Chachki on the Runway at Moschino F/W 2018

Violet Chachki, the winner of season 7 of RuPaul’s Drag Race, closed the Moschino show on the runway in Milan the other day. Remember; it’s the menswear shows for fall/winter 2018 we’re watching. Ms Chachki wore a black tuxedo, with a ‘twist’. Jeremy Scott,  designer for Moschino, named this garment the “tandem tux” because the tail was fixed to yet another model wearing the same jacket. Our best guess is that it was a female model: Violet looked rather manly. Don’t get us wrong here: we think she is always adorable!

Moschino menswear for F/W 2018

This show reminded us, or actually was, a blast from the past. About 30 years back to the 90s of the 20th century to be exact. The aesthetics and actual designs (if our memory serves us well) of Jean Paul Gaultier were on show again. The styling and the androgyness vibe of the 1990s wasn’t to be missed either. In that era sex related taboos were outed in the same manner Jeremy Scott did. For our younger readers; if you can’t believe it: look It up. Here’s some search terms: start with Franco Moschino, 1990s trends, Jean Paul Gaultier, Madonna’s book Sex.

On the optimist side of it all: Thanks Jeremy Scott for Violet Chachki! and the gender-neutral models, thanks for adding 1980s punk idioms to the collection as well as the super romantic printed voile dresses!

We are aware of the fact that we, at Mimi Berlin, are old, certainly in fashion years. We’ve seen it done that and really have been there. In other words, our take on fashion isn’t that fresh anymore, but please, Dear fashion designers: can we move ON already!
