Nothing Gold can stay (Robert Frost, 1923)
Nature’s first green is gold,
Her hardest hue to hold.
Her early leaf’s a flower;
But only so an hour.
Then leaf subsides to leaf.
So Eden sank to grief,
So dawn goes down to day.
Nothing gold can stay.

This poem is featured in The Outsiders written by S. E. Hinton in 1967. In the film adaptation of this novel, made in 1983 directed by F. Coppolla, it’s recited aloud by Ponyboy to his friend Johnny.
