Roller Derby is a contact sport played by two teams of five members roller skating in the same direction around a track, they have all kinds of matches whilst doing so. Basically one of the teams needs to be the fastest; the players are very rough with each other in order to accomplish a win. Roller skating marathons became populair in the 1930s, just like the dance marathons. Roller Derby is a sport with a high entertaiment value; the same kind the american wrestling matches have.

Acne Studios’ Jonny Johansson was inspired by “Keanu Reeves’s swollen face.” for the fall/winter 2017 men’s collection. (we read that on vogue .com)
From the Acne Studios Press Release: “I realised that businessmen don’t exist anymore, even though the world has chosen business. It led me to think about working men in the 80s, and how they fetishised their clothing. I wanted to bring that same respect for fabric and shape to this collection.” – Jonny Johansson, Creative Director
Usually we don’t read anything before we write down about what’s going on in our own minds when we make a runway review, but in this case we’re glad we did: the ‘swolen face’ inspiration is just too funny, but the press release made more sense to us, at Mimi Berlin.
Anyway; In our opinion Acne Studios created very cuddly nerds; a species that could be studied by a, probably not so much nerdy, audience who were seated on benches in a lecture hall. We imagine it must have been something like a biological-fashion-anthropologie-class experience, Fun! We wished we were there. (also because we fancy the designs by Acne Studios very much)
We found the coats at Balenciaga remarkable; They are fresh and young: seems for a different woman than the Balenciaga one used to be; more trendy. We now know why; this show was the debut of Vetements designer and new artistic director of Balenciaga Demna Gvasila. Vetements is the hottest brand in town nowadays; Fall 2016 was the last collection for Demna Gvasila.
Other Brands such as Celine also managed to transform functionality into fashion in a less radical way; presenting Wax (trench) Coats in a more demure colorscheme.
Like Acne Studios, Stella McCartney also incorporated the very functional Down Jacket. McCartney used the garment almost as a basis for her Fall 2016 collection. Unlike at Acne Studios she didn’t take away it’s functionality; to keep us warm. No, she transformed the down jacket into al kinds of shapes; from cropped to oversized, from day to evening wear.

Acne Studios releases the new campaign for Spring/Summer 2015 as part of an ongoing collaboration with photographer Viviane Sassen. Which we, at Mimi Berlin love!
The imagery is unveiled in New York, London, Paris, Hong Kong and on acnestudios.com as the collection reaches stores. For the Spring/Summer 2015 collection, Creative Director Jonny Johansson was inspired by youth ́s relation to luxury and created an entire wardrobe for a social calendar covering everything from business, travelling, parties to leisure. The Spring/Summer 2015 collection is available online on acnestudios.com
