Maison The Faux Presents: Maison Pour Maison at AFWStudio 2019

Amsterdam Fashion Week Studio 2019

AFWStudio

“Friday March 8, 2019, Amsterdam Fashion Week, AFWStudio.
The Arnhem based fashionable collective ‘Maison The Faux’ (a creative studio posing as a grand couture fashion house) presented ‘Maison Pour Maison’, “a multidisciplinary performance exploring all the facets of a home/maison”, in particular the bedroom and bedroom-behavior.

Mimi Berlin Blogger Team attended ‘Maison pour Maison’ at the Compagnie-theatre in the city-center of Amsterdam. If you missed this show make sure to read on, if you can’t be bothered: that’s okay. Next stop for this perfomance will be in Tokio, it’s a second chance to see the show live, for yourself.

Maison pour Maison

‘Maison Pour Maison’ is Maison The Faux’s interpretation of leisure wear. Home-wear in it’s most ultimate and elegant form, according to designers Joris Suk and Tessa de Boer. The collection consists of two-piece pyjama’s, bedroom gowns, negligee sets and a selection of robes combined with sleeping hats, sweaters and t-shirts. Various interior products were used as not-your-average styling devices. Pillows, duvets, sleep masks and even mattresses had a main part in the presentation.

Mimi Berlin’s thoughts during the performance

‘Maison Pour Maison’ the fashion-performance, is a story with a proper begining and ending. Starting out very calm, with people moving in slow motion on 2 separate twin-size beds, surrounded by curtains.

In our minds Marie-Antoinette popped up, because of the printed French doors on the curtains, also because of the fact we were watching a bed-scene.

Slowly but surely the tempo becomes more fast, going on into exaltation or hysteria, . The transparent and frilly outfits and the repetive movements of the models made clear this story aslo has to do with sex and/or erotica. During the middle part of the show the vibe becomes less friendly. The scene transforms into a hospital or even an asylum. The outfits adapted perfectly to this shift in atmosphere.

News from Maison The Faux

“The company of MAISON the FAUX is also subject to renovation: MAISON the FAUX is expanding their multidisciplinary ways. The creative studio is no longer accepting whole sale orders and is increasingly focusing on their work as a creative design studio (art-direction, spatial design, costume design etc.) and e-commerce.
MAISON the FAUX will present “MAISON pour MAISON” during Tokyo Fashion Week, introducing various home products as an addition to the “MAISON pour MAISON” presentation at Amsterdam Fashion Week.” (maisonthefaux.com)

Opening Show at Amsterdam Fashion Week: Das Leben am Haverkamp

Opening Show at Amsterdam Fashion Week: Das Leben am Haverkamp

Dutch fashion collective Das Leben Am Haverkamp opened the Amsterdam Fashion Week (sponsored by Mercedes-Benz: MBFWA) thursday evening. Das Leben am Haverkamp (The life at Haverkamp*)  debuted in 2015 at Amsterdam Fashionweek during “The Future Generation” program with the fashion performance “Gefelicifashion” (*Read more about that and the designers HERE on this blog)

(the finale XOXOMIMIBERLINMMXVII)

DLAH showed a “Holiday Resort Happening” The basis for this presentation was a question they asked themselves about fashion: what happens to clothes if you take away it’s functionality. The audience wasn’t really included in this questionnaire; we were left to think for ourselves whilst (a lovely cast) of models passed us by in a monotone choreography. The models were holding lifesize illustrations, mostly executed in plastic, of “looks”.

FashionWeek NL: Collectie Arnhem 2017

FashionWeek NL: Collectie Arnhem 2017

On Thursday Jan. 26 Mimi Blogger Team went to see the presentation of Collectie Arnhem 2017: Freedom! Inconvenience! Madness! And a hard-boiled egg.

The third year students of Artez Arnhem Fashion Design came up with a surprisingly divers collection and presentation. In the color of a hard boiled egg: yellow, they indeed showed freedom and inconvenience. Models obiviously felt free in ‘sweatshirt’ tops and couldn’t walk at all in monumental trousers (just naming the extremes here). The latter is sheer madness od course!

The fact that our fashion-imagination instantly started translating the more ‘inconvenient’ designs into wearable clothes isn’t ‘madness’ at all! No, au contraire; it is exactly what you need if you own a fashion label: intelligent ideas, authenticity and crafstmanship (needless to say that includes pattern making etc.) seamlessly applyable to more wearable fashion design.
We would hire a student with those abilities right away. Leider/Unfortunately/Helaas/Malheuresement we don’t own a fashion label.

Lookbook Images were photographed by the designers, as part of the annual ‘Collectie Arnhem’ study project. So for the best images made of this collection visit Collectie Arnhem’s Facebook, Instagram or site.

Each year again the ‘Collectie Arnhem’ production team manages to invite us to an unexpected place which we’ve never seen before! This year the fashion presentation was held at the newly opened NewWerktheater in Amsterdam, a build from the sixties which used to be a theater. A rather perfect location which will soon be opened for food and drinks (and more)

MBFWA Opening Night; Dutch Heritage.

Now that’s a good idea! Opening Mercedez Benz Fashion Week Amsterdam with a “Dutch Heritage” program. We are especially interested in the last show of the opening evening named Couture & Crafts; an overview show with (vintage) fashion by Dutch couturiers and designers dating from 1960 to 2016. As you all know we adore vintage Dutch fashion heritage, we even based a couple of our Mimi Berlin’s Fashion-Fests on Dutch designers such as Fong Leng and Dick Holthaus using vintage outfits from the kabinet-vintage-depot collection. We hope tickets are still available!
