Last weekendt we, at Mimi Berlin visited the third edition of the photographyfair ‘Buy My Darlings‘ at the NDSM building in Amsterdam.
Buy My Darlings Photographyfair
Dutch photographers Tara Fallaux en Martijn van de Griendt started the BMD fair In 2020 as a platform for fellow artists to show and sell their work in a more casual environment than, for instance, a gallery. Since then, the platform has attracted well known artists and many more visitors every year. In 2022, this year, the 2 day fair has 40 participating photographers

The next editions of Hoogtij are planned already: on the 27th of September and on the 29th of November in 2019. (hoogtij.net)
The Hague Heritage
We went to the vernissage of the exhibition ‘The Hague Heritage‘ at the Heden gallery. This show is a hommage to artists who have a link to The Hague. Heden invited 30 artists who are either born, live, work or study(ied) in this city by the sea. These artists each chose their favorite work. The Hague Heritage is running to 07 juli 2019
Margot Huijkelom is an artist with a background in fashion, she’s based in France; to be exact in Barbizon. She was born, raised and educated in the Netherlands, so you could say that she came back to her roots with this exhibition at The Grand Hotel in Amsterdam.
We, at Mimi Berlin, met Margot the other day to have a look at her most recent works. Ms Huijkelom was so kind to take us on a tour around the ground floor, where the walls are covered with her paintings and illustrations.
Fashion Illustrator
Margot’s career has been a divers one, within the bounderies of fashion. She made illustrations, for Vogue Japan, L’officiel and numerous other glossy magazines. She sat next to the haute-couture runways for Le Monde and she has had her work published in several books, she also worked as the art-director for Gerbe in Paris. (more on that later on this blog, promised!) Next to this commisioned work she found out that she could fulfill more of her creative inspirations by painting. As mentioned above; she is based in Barbizon and that’s where she has an atelier where she creates ‘free work’, mostly on canvas made with natural pigments. These works are also on show at The Grand.
On exhibit at the Grand
Huijkelom’s exhibition will run through to the end of August 2019 so you have plenty of time to take a stroll through the hallways of the hotel and enjoy her work for yourself. @margot_van_huijkelom And here’s a link to The Grand, Amsterdam.
Mimi Blogger Team went to visit the preview of ‘ThisArtFair’ at the Beurs van Berlage in the citycenter of Amsterdam.
Without a gallery
‘ThisArtFair’ is an annual art fair held at the end of December. Special thing about this fair is the fact that it’s set up for artists to exhibit without a gallery. There are some gallery booths present, so the concept isn’t that strict. Come to think of it, nothing seems ‘strict’ at this fair; which is fun.
Above: We purchased art made by Caspar Braat Below:some of our favourite work. “over 120 artists, with and without a gallery, show and sell their works at the fair.” (thisartfair.com) Open from 27 until 30 December 2018.
Next to the Affordable Art Fair 2013, in Amsterdam at restaurant Stork, we found THE bonus of the affordable art fair: Work on exhibit by photographer Claude Vanheye. Iconic portraits made in the previous century by Mr. Vanheye of popstars like David Bowie, Chaka Kahn, Jimmy Hendrix, Tom Waits, Mick Jagger, Bryan Ferry, John Lennon, Debby Harry and Grace Jones, but to name a few. They are for sale, limited, numbered and signed, (with spectaculair discount only during the fair). We, at Mimi Berlin, always have been fans of Claude Vanheye’s work, you can imagine we were pleased to meet him at the opening of AAF 2013.
