Olympic summer games 1968 in Mexico: black power salute: U.S. athletes Tommie Smith, center, and John Carlos stare downward saluting during the playing of the Star Spangled Banner  in Mexico City on Oct. 16, 1968.  (AP Photo/FILE) Smith and Carlos, 1st and 3rd in the 200m,  also showed their solidarity for the Black Panther movement by wearing gloves, they also wore no shoes to protest black poverty, and beads around their necks to protest lynching. I couldn’t find a recording of just the salute. Though this clip is very interesting, “the salute” doesn’t come with the original sound, wich makes it less powerful than it was in reality.black panther party
