Fashion Tale F/W 2014: Bird watching

The Birds

Feathers are the main styling device for the designers, mixed with fur, wovens or knits, any idea you come up with for using feathers; just do it! Same goes for prints and allovers; birds, ranging from spring chickens to the peacock, all kinds of bird-varieties passed at the the fall 2014 shows.

The Bird Watchers

The bird watchers have to keep warm, for Fall 2014 they sure will, again lots of fur, styled more casual though. Combined with sturdy leather, preppy wooden buttons, or wearing a wax/rain-coat-feel outfit

The Snakes

The bird watchers have to watch out for the snakes lurking in the grass. Snake skin in bold colurs was often used this season, above at Tom Ford, Dsquared2 and Giorgio Armani. Snakeskin in transparent voile at Givenchy (and other brands as well)

The color chart is an obvious one: an Autumn scheme with fresher touches of yellow. “Forest” Green and similar neutrals are important, next to more vivid colors (as special accents for use  in snake skin items for example)

Fashion Fairy Tales F/W 2014: Little Red Riding Hood

Fashion Fairy Tales: Little Red Riding Hood. Yes! it’s time for dreams again at the Fashion Shows for Winter 2014. Little Red Riding Hood is stomping through the woods, not only wearing her cape. No, this season she owns more than just a cape, she’s wearing the killed bloody wolf on her shoulders as well! Coats and dresses made of red fur sure make do as really fancy showstoppers! Prints and patches of wolves, squirrels, birds, forests and the actual Little Red Riding Hood story are placed on her wardrobe as well.

On the catwalk at Miu Miu Little Red Riding Hood was portrayed in a more modern way.   Teenage girls on the road, could be in a forest, could be elsewhere, but this fierce girl is not going home!  She is on a mission or otherwise just walkin’ the streets. (We picked out the red outfits amongst the other primary colors and pastels to give our story more credibility. See the complete show HERE on style.com)

As for the color red: We suggest to the people in the industry to stick with accessories in red fur, knit and jersey or a little dress. (assuming you want to $ell)

Fashion Tale F/W 2014: Razzle Dazzle

Fashion Tale F/W 2014: Razzle Dazzle. Or Dazzle camouflage, also known as Dazzle ships or dazzle painting, was a family of ship camouflage used extensively in World War I and to a lesser extent in World War II and afterwards. Credited to artist Norman Wilkinson, it consisted of complex patterns of geometric shapes in contrasting colors, interrupting and intersecting each other.
Well, our “Fashion Tale” obviously is about that; dazzle color blocking from very small prints to the larger sewn together combinations, allowing for silhouettes to be like ships; big and chunky. Bold statements like the pink striped cape at BCBG Max Azria will do, but also more “known” shapes such as the enlarged pied-de-coq at Les Copains or the enlarged check at Valentino are true razzle dazzles as well !

Believe it or not, Dazzle painting works in normal life too, it’s not for combat purposes only. But our story is situated in the war, hence the aviator’s jackets below, they complete this trend perfectly. We choose Amelia Earhart (July 24, 1897 – disappeared July 2, 1937) as inspiration source because she was the first female aviator to fly solo across the Atlantic Ocean. Dear fashion-people, We think you can work with that, and for your color cards, you take it to the next level, anything goes; from pastel to an autumn range to black and white, no boundaries there……

Fashion Equations

Now here’s something we love; Fashion Equations. It’s the kind of math we can follow and sums we would like to make ourselves. (maybe we will someday)Fashion Equations
We found this Fashion Almanac by Laura Bradley ” A Graphic and Textual Exploration of the Fashion World” on ISUU. After some research we only could find the first issue, made 5 years ago. We feel that’s a shame, there should have been many more issues of this lovely magazine. Well, there aren’t. Make sure to check it out!

We are not a 100% sure but we think the author has AnOther job, do check that out as well, it’s fun.

Remarkable how much fur was used this F/W 2013 season, and not only by the Italian designers. And not only for coats. Accessories, embellishments, dresses, tops etc etc can be find in fur allsorts.
