Fuorisalone 2015: Kitchens designed by Paola Navone

Fuorisalone 2015: Kitchens designed by Paola Navone

During Milano Designweek we attended the Pizza Party, hosted by NLXL, at Paola Navone’s home above her studio in the Tortona Area. We were amazed by the decoration, so much to see in her house and especially in her kitchen; A large space with a full lenght wall filled with metal pots and pans, stacks of recipe books and many cupboards with collected glassware. Ms Navone also created a kitchen for the temporary exhibit of Ikea at the Via Vigevano. For this special exhibit, Ikea asked several designers to reinterpret their new kitchen collection. Paola Navone did a great job creating the similar atmosphere, with mostly products by Ikea, as in her own home. Top notch interior styling!

Fuorisalone 2015: NLXL x Paola Navone NLXL x Daniel Rozensztroch

Fuorisalone 2015: NLXL x Paola Navone NLXL x Daniel Rozensztroch

NLXL is a Dutch manufacturer of wallpaper, the kind you actually paste to your walls in your home; Premium Designer Wallpaper. NLXL is awarded winner by Elle Decoration with the EDIDA 2015 award in the wall covering category for the wallpaper series “Archives by Studio Job”.

At the Milan Design Week 2015 NLXL presented the result of their collaborations with Italian product designer Paola Navone and the French art-director at Merci, Daniel Rozensztroch, who both created a collection of 8 wallpaper designs for NLXL. Daniel Rozensztroch created a collection named “Obsession“, he is a collector of vintage, everyday objects. Paola Navone‘s collection is named “Addiction“, our guess is she can’t get enough of the color blue. The presentation was held at Paola Navone’s Studio annex home at the Tortona area, and was titled “Double Face“: The venue had two entrances, walking clockwise you could see the “Obsession” collection, walking the other way around the “Addiction” collection was in front of you. Ms Navone styled the rooms, sometimes with products designed by herself.

New wallpaper editions by NLXL x Piet Hein Eek were also on show at Spazio Rossana Orlandi

Fuorisalone 2015: Louis Vuitton presents Object Nomades

Fuorisalone 2015: Louis Vuitton presents Object Nomades

Louis Vuitton added new items to the Objets Nomades collection of foldable furniture and travel accessories. A new collaboration with 3 talented designers: the Raw Edges, Gwenaël Nicolas and Damien Langlois-Meurinne was presented at the frilly, 19th century Palazzo Bocconi on the Corso Venezia 48 during Milan Design week 2015.

With a spumante in one hand, a camera in the other we, Mimi Blogger Team, strolled the rooms of the Palazzo, which were filled with tropical flowers, plants, and extremely well crafted high-end design. For a moment we felt how traveling in colonial times must have been like; Heavenly.

Raw Edges discusses their Concertina Collection: “We loved the challenge of working on a collection of collapsible objects, with the focus on how to make them look large, surprising and with real presence when they are expanded”.
Gwenaël Nicolas, taking inspiration by Ernest Hemingway’s African travels, has created the Ernest Bed and the Miller Lamp, which were ”an opportunity to discover a mysterious world” and, about his collaboration with Louis Vuitton, he loved “the idea that the designer could propose the object he wanted to design: it’s a very personal and  serious commitment”. The Valet and the Totem Floral by Damien Langlois-Meurinne, spawned from his idea: “A designer is nothing without the savoir-faire of the artisans who bring his ideas and sketches to life”.

The Object Nomades collection, created in collaboration with several international designers, was presented for the first time during Design Miami in 2012.
The Raw Edges, Gwenaël Nicolas and Damien Langlois-Meurinne have increased the existing collaborations beside some of the most creative designers of our time:  Campana Brothers, Patricia Urquiola, Barber & Osgerby, Nendo, Maarten Baas and Atelier Oï. These 9 designers have created 16 Objets Nomades which are prototypes or available in a limited edition.

Fuorisalone 2015; Exploring Weltevree

Fuorisalone 2015; Exploring Weltevree

The Weltevree concept was about “Explore your surroundings“. Weltevree invited “passionate craftspeople from various disciplines” such as Raw Color,  Erik Stehmann, Scheublin & Lindeman, Thorter  Kulve, Dick  van Hoff, Studio  Siem/Pabon, Floris Schoonderbeek, Workmates and Walter van Beirendonck, to show that “design is multidisciplinary and seemingly sans boundaries.”
Okay, we, at Mimi Berlin, explored the presentation at the Via Voghera in the Tortona area:

At the courtyard we were welcomed by the Groundfridge, designed by Floris Schoonderbeek, this fridge is a new take on the traditional root cellar, in which you keep your food cold. Continue reading

Fuorisalone 2015; MacGuffin Magazine

MacGuffin is a new and unusual design & crafts magazine made by Kirsten Algera, Chris Kabel and Ernst Verhoeven. It features fabulous stories about the life of ordinary, often anonymously designed things. Each biannual edition takes an object and explores the manifold stories it generates. Like the MacGuffins in Hitchcock films, these things are not the main characters, but the plot devices that set the story in motion. Issue #1 (‘The Bed’) was launched April 16 at the Salone del Mobile 2015 in the Palazzo Clerici. Continue reading
