Moncler Genius opens Milan Fashion Week

MonclerGenius opens Milan Fashion Week

Yesterday Milan Fashion Week opened with a mastrodont of a fashion presentation held by Moncler. Introducing the ‘Moncler Genius’ project for fall/winter 2018, in which eight (8!) designers, or fashion houses, collaborated with the brand. Our personal favorite are the designs by Pierpaolo Piccioli, the creative director at Valentino. He transformed the, now so very trendy, ‘puffa coat’ into a couture-like-cape silhouette, using beautiful color combinations. (see those below)

Graig Green and the Grenoble line

Also a personal favorite are the designs by Graig Green. Mr Green created Super Men, Transformers, Space Travelers, Polar Voyagers or whatever you want to name them: he took the concept of protective-wear to the max! Continue reading

Apocalyptic SF Action Heroes on the Runway for F/W 18

Apocalyptic SF Action Heroes on the Runway for F/W 18

Fashion-week: menswear for Fall/Winter 2018. It’s a mad, mad world. It truly is. Some Fashion designers can’t take it anymore, and it shows! Rick Owens showed some kind of mutant men. (the ones with the white faces) At Comme des Garçons some of the models  wore skeleton warrior-like headpieces (sewn in fabric). At Yamamoto’s Y-Project, the boys seemed protected by thigh-high-Ugg-boots: again it’s a mad and apocalyptic world!

Comic Book

In the runway shows, by the designers above, there was also a more lighter, and more colorful side to be found. Below, for example; Comme des Garçons, a jacket with an actual comic book print. At Vetements in a more illustrative way: the comic-book figure himself.

Violet Chachki on the Runway at Moschino F/W 2018

Violet Chachki on the Runway at Moschino F/W 2018

Violet Chachki, the winner of season 7 of RuPaul’s Drag Race, closed the Moschino show on the runway in Milan the other day. Remember; it’s the menswear shows for fall/winter 2018 we’re watching. Ms Chachki wore a black tuxedo, with a ‘twist’. Jeremy Scott,  designer for Moschino, named this garment the “tandem tux” because the tail was fixed to yet another model wearing the same jacket. Our best guess is that it was a female model: Violet looked rather manly. Don’t get us wrong here: we think she is always adorable!

RVDK showing at Couture Week Paris

RVDK showing at Couture Week Paris

The letters RVDK stand for Ronald van der Kemp, a Dutch fashion designer who started his own first demi-couture label, for Fall 2015: RVDK. He and his team have been slowly working towards the opportunity to show, officially, in Paris during Couture Week, June 2017. (showing the collection for Fall/Winter 2018). That’s kind of a big deal; you have to be a member of the Fédération de la Haute Couture et de la Mode. Other Dutch fashion designers showing this season are Iris van Herpen, Viktor & Rolf and Belgian designers A.F. Vandervorst. (Obviously we are rooting for the BeNeLux)

Gratuliere to you all at RVDK!
