Hubert de Givenchy at the Gemeentemuseum in The Hague

The Pre Kardashians Era.

Mimi Berlin Blogger Team went to the opening of the fashion exhibition Hubert de Givenchy – To Audrey with Love yesterday. It’s a retrospective of the work of French couturier Hubert de Givenchy (opening the Givenchy fashion house in 1952, retired in 1995.). The exhibition has been curated in close consultation with Mr de Givenchy himself. The couturier has personally selected many of his (never seen before) creations, some of the accessories styling was obviously done by the Master himself as well: the mannequins were embellished with costume jewelry and sunglasses in a way only a mind from the previous century could come up with, we thought the accessories were literally the icing on the cake; interesting and fun!

This is the second time that the Gemeentemuseum in The Hague has an exhibition on the work of Givenchy. In 1988 ‘Hubert de Givenchy. Haute Couture worn by Audrey Hepburn’, was curated by Ietse Mey, the opening of this exhibition was attended by both Audrey Hepburn and Hubert de Givenchy. We, at Mimi Berlin, attended that opening as well but we didn’t have a Blogger Team back then, in fact the word ‘Blogger’ didn’t exist yet.

The Gemeentemuseum Den Haag collaborated with Eloy Martínez De La Pera Celada, who recently worked jointly with Hubert de Givenchy on the ‘Hubert de Givenchy’ exhibition at the Thyssen-Bornemisza Museum in Madrid, Spain (2014/2015). Art direction was done by Maarten Spruyt and Tsur Reshef, collection curator is Madelief Hohé of the Gemeentemuseum Den Haag. Ode to Dutch Fashion

Ode to Dutch Fashion

Good Morning! Today we have a tip on how to spend your Sunday; Go visit The Gemeentemuseum in The Hague for the fashion exhibition “Ode to Dutch Fashion”. It will brighten up the day….

Yesterday we went to the opening of the fashion exhibition “Ode to Dutch Fashion”. (see some party snaps here) The museum highlights well known names like Viktor & Rolf and the fact that the dress worn by Queen Maxima at King Willem-Alexander’s coronation, designed by Jan Taminiau, is on show. These are great designers but they aren’t the most spectaculair at this exhibition; it’s the exhibition itself that’s so great! Wandering trough the rooms filled with all these designs, (new and older ones side by side) paintings and the custom-made photo series, is really the best experience. Well, it made US happy, hope you like it too! xoxo Mimi
