Lichting 2018

Yes, it’s that time of the year agian: it’s fashionweek around the world and also in Amsterdam. Before we go on about the Lichting 2018 show, you must know that it is the first Amsterdam Fashion Week (AFW) without sponsoring by Mercedes-Benz, Dutch fashion entrepreneur Danie Bles is in charge now.

Ms Bles changed fashion week in Amsterdam in a couple of ways. She introduced the “See Now, Buy Now’ formula, aimed at the consumer market. Programmed are catwalkshows by Hudson’s Bay, Penn&Ink N.Y., Silvian Heach, Goldbergh, 10DAYS, supermarket Lidl x Heidi Klum, Maison 365, Le Cafe Noir Studio & Jenneskens and Zoe Karssen. (We are not sure how many of these shops and/or brands are from The Netherlands) the location AFW has moved from the buildings at the Westergasfabriek complex to a tent on the Museumplein in Amsterdam, which is covered with grass.

The AKV St Joost is an art academy in Breda The Netherlands, best known for its Film and Photography department. AKV St Joost Breda is, by the way, situated in a lovely former convent, surrounded by grass and trees.You can visit this University to see all the work made by the students for their graduation projects: “The launch 2018” is open until The 4th of July 2018.

Lichting 2017 Fashion Design Award goes to Lizzy Stuyfzand

Yesterday (7/14/2017), on the second day of Amsterdam Fashionweek (MBFWA) Mini Berlin Blogger Team went to see the Lichting show (the annual contest for 14 graduating Dutch fashion design students) Lizzy Stuyfzand was the winner of the Lichting Award, for most promising talent, which is €10,000! Congratulations!! Ms Stuyfzand graduated last month at ArtEZ Arnhem with her menswear collection “Call me magpie” (see more about that here on this blog)

The second award, €3000; is ‘The Audience’s Favorite’ went to Sarah Bruylant of AMFI. The students participated to this lovely show were: Roos Boshart, Rachael Cheong, Annebel de Kok, Miro Hämäläinen, Karlijn Krijger and Ninamounah Langestraat (read more about them here lichting.nl) The winners truly deserved the prices they got, but we also rooted for Ninamounah Langestraat (Gerrit Rietveld Academy) her part of the Lichting show really stood out to us because of it’s very strong personality. Just like last year JW Kaldenbach & Mimi Berlin got commissioned to portray the graduate bachelor students of ArtEZ Arnhem (University of Fine Arts situated in Arnhem, The Netherlands) and create an exhibition out of these portraits. We, at Mimi Berlin, still have the voting card for Marlou Breuls, we obviously rooted for an other student….

MBFWA (Mercedes-Benz-Fashion-Week-Amsterdam) opened yesterday evening (July 7, 2016) with the annual, national fashion-awardshow (Mercedes-Benz presents) Lichting 2016. It is Lichting’s 10th anniversary this year so the festive opening, including an exhibition, was in place!

Winners were Danial Aitouganov, he won the Lichting Award of €10.000,- and Marlou Breuls, she won The Audience Favorite Award, which is €3.000,-. They both graduated at AMFI (Amsterdam Fashion Institute) Congratulations to them both!

The jury members this year were; Bram van Diepen (men’s wear designer at Louis Vuitton, participant of Lichting 2011), Rem D. Koolhaas (creative director & co-founder of United Nude Shoes), Michael Kampe (head of creative management Denim BOSS Orange & Green & BOSS Woman) and Ferry “Promostyl” Schoew (fashion forecaster)
