Apocalyptic SF Action Heroes on the Runway for F/W 18
Fashion-week: menswear for Fall/Winter 2018. It’s a mad, mad world. It truly is. Some Fashion designers can’t take it anymore, and it shows! Rick Owens showed some kind of mutant men. (the ones with the white faces) At Comme des Garçons some of the models wore skeleton warrior-like headpieces (sewn in fabric). At Yamamoto’s Y-Project, the boys seemed protected by thigh-high-Ugg-boots: again it’s a mad and apocalyptic world!

In the runway shows, by the designers above, there was also a more lighter, and more colorful side to be found. Below, for example; Comme des Garçons, a jacket with an actual comic book print. At Vetements in a more illustrative way: the comic-book figure himself.

Violet Chachki, the winner of season 7 of RuPaul’s Drag Race, closed the Moschino show on the runway in Milan the other day. Remember; it’s the menswear shows for fall/winter 2018 we’re watching. Ms Chachki wore a black tuxedo, with a ‘twist’. Jeremy Scott, designer for Moschino, named this garment the “tandem tux” because the tail was fixed to yet another model wearing the same jacket. Our best guess is that it was a female model: Violet looked rather manly. Don’t get us wrong here: we think she is always adorable!
Yesterday* Mimi Blogger Team attended the festive opening of the new men’s department at the Menage à Trois shop in Amsterdam. MENAGE men’s department carries the following brands#joseph#marni#yproject #cottweiler#chalayan #yangli#sunnei and #agnautacouture. We suggest you go to the staalstraat in Amsterdam if you are in need of a new outfit!

A new and lovely department store has been opened: Magasin Horaz in The Hague. Why is Magasin Horaz special? The shop itself: it’s divided into separate rooms in a historical violin workshop (from Josef Joachim Vedral, violin maker) built in 1700. The goods: a mix of, well, everything; carefully selected by owner Horas Simanullang. Browsing the store you can feel the fun it’s owner has with filling his store, we think that’s very special! Magasin Horaz has a small selection of high quality goods like menswear fashion (Comme des Garcons, Van Slobbe Van Benthum) bespoke designer objects, (cook) books, interior design items, some top notch foods and sooooo much more. The back of the store houses a small art gallery with a new exhibition every two months. You can also have a drink in the “Red Room” and sit outside on the patio if you like. The shop has yet to have a “Grand Opening” but it is open already!

The Hague: the city where queen Maxima and King Willem-Alexander of the Netherlands live. Magasin Horaz is situated in the old part of town: the center in the Molenstraat, a stones throw away from the Royal Palace Noordeinde, that’s where the Dutch king works. Visit Magazin Horaz on Facebook
Menswear shows in Paris: Rick Owens and Kenzo chose a similar kind of venue: Trend Alert! Buildings as a fashion show backdrop (a summer trend; it needs to be outside). This post is obviously not going to be a Mimi Runway report: we can’t see the actual clothes. But, what a spectacle it’s like the circus…..

A Walk in The Park with Balenciaga. Menswear Show Spring/Summer 2018
Balenciaga’s latest menswear fashion show, spring/summer 2018, was held at Bois de Boulogne in Paris. It showed what life (das leben) could look like if people stopped wearing the same drab clothes all the time. Something we can only dream about when strolling our local park: Balenciaga’s outdoor venue, and the designs, visualised that for us.
Being as long in the fashion business as we, at Mimi Berlin, are makes sure that there is little surprise left: even at the NY-Paris-London-Milano fashion shows (which are top-notch main-stream-high-fashion-events) ‘things‘ keep repeating themselves. But the work of the artistic director at Balenciaga (and Vetements) Demna Gvasila, is still a breath of fresh air to us. (pun intended)

The show looked like a family affair of fine dressed persons taking a hike: and that’s the only comparison that can be made about the models; they were al SO different. (Just like Demna Gvasila’s brand Vetements “No Show’ models: those are Hamburg citizens not prof. models.)
Furthermore, we suggest you take a look for yourself at balenciaga.com (or #balenciaga on instagram; pictures taken by the audience are always nice, atmosphere wise.) see if you like this performance as much as we do and, to get an actual look at the silhouettes and clothes, on which we obviously didn’t report.
You can shop (pre-order) this summer collection as we speak; NOW.
There are also 5 bicycles to choose from……….
The models were actual families and the venue is a ‘cruising place’ in Paris.
