Margiela, The Hermès Years

Martin Margiela

Martin Margiela was the creative director for Hermès from 1997 to 2003: at the Fashion Museum in Antwerp they made a complete exhibition out of this fact! Mimi Berlin Blogger Team visited. We were especially stunned by the beauty of the showcase below. It wasn’t allowed to take photo’s at the museum but we simply had to make this one.The skirt and the upper part of the boots are made in the same fabric, a traditional Hermès cloth. The leather parts are in Navy (that’s dark blue)

What would you wear with this set? We decided upon a Navy, fitted twinset……. Continue reading

Suzy Menkes on tour in Belgium and The Netherlands

Suzy Menkes on tour in Belgium and The Netherlands

Suzy Menkes is a world-renowned, British, fashion journalist, at the moment she works for Vogue (international). Last week she came to visit Belgium and The Netherlands. Her tour started in Brussels for the fashion exhibition “The Belgians” at Bozar, followed by a visit to Antwerp’s Momu with Dries Van Noten, and a meeting with Walter van Beirendonck. In The Netherlands she opened the fashion exhibition “New for Now” at the Rijksmuseum and she visited Denim City, both in Amsterdam. Ms Menkes also visited the exhibition “Everything but Clothes” at the Arnhem Museum.
Yes, we can read your mind; this is also a tour for us fashion lovers. We can visit 4 new exhibitions on fashion, just like Suzy M.

Suzy Menkes will be writing a fashion column for the Dutch (cheap, glossy) magazine Beau Monde. Her first story will be published in the October issue 2015 of the magazine. Hard to believe that’s true: this magazine is not about fashion but about (Dutch) celebrities…..Wir sind gespannt.

Rupert von Rom Dries van Noten Inspirations on exhibit in Antwerp

Dries van Noten Inspirations on exhibit in Antwerp

The other day we, Mimi Berlin, visited the exhibition “Inspirations” by Dries van Noten, in the couturier’s home town of Antwerp, Belgium.
What a great exibithion! And SO marvelously well designed!

Usually in fashion you have to make do with inspirational images on paper, but Dries van Noten shows us the real thing; On show, next to his designs, are Picasso, Damien Hirst, Balenciaga, Balmain, Worth, and many others …….all in the flesh!
Many inspirational movies and fashion shows are beautifully incorporated throughout the transformed fashion museum. Also the sense of smell is an important factor; a scent to accompany your vision can be smelled by touching different walls.
If you haven’t already; make sure you go and see the Inspirations of Dries van Noten. The exhibition was initiated and realized by Les Arts Décoratifs, Paris (01/03-02/11/14), we were told it’s a bit different and smaller in Antwerp. But the new version in Antwerp stays true to its original incarnation in Paris, highlighting the sources of Dries Van Noten’s inspiration by juxtaposing his creations with emblematic past and present works of art and fashion, again curated by Pamela Golbin (chief curator of 20th-century and contemporary fashion and textiles at Les Arts Décoratifs.) and adapted for the MoMu by Arter, the agency that designed the original exhibition for Les Arts Décoratifs.

Our must-see expert Rüpert von Rom posted earlier on “Inspiration” including a video of Dries van Noten talking about the exhibition. Continue reading
