Mirror Mirror Magazine #8 The Launch

Mirror Mirror Magazine

Mirror Mirror Magazine is the newest, bi-annual, beauty magazine on the Dutch market. The glossy is founded by Georgette Koning, who also is the editor-in-chief and creative-director. Issue number 8 was launched the other day at the New Werktheater in Amsterdam, the headquarters of ‘…,staat’, the ad-company responsible for the design and art-direction of this issue of Mirror Mirror.

#8 Spring 2019

We, at Mimi Berlin, went to the launch because we were invited ànd are always very gespannt to flip through the pages of this lovely mag, it’s one of our favorite actually. The newest issue is filled with tons of editorials and interesting reads. Interviews with, for example, Violet Chacki, the famous dragqueen and Val Garland, global director of L’Oréal and with Sandra Govers, a make-up artist who is a collector of fake eyelashes ànd a read about beauty-product design. Stuff you won’t find in your average beauty magazine, we feel like. We will spare you mentioning all the editorials because that’s a long list as well. Just go and see for yourself is our suggestion.

The Spring 2019 issue has 4 different covers to choose from. Cover 3, photographed by Philippe Vogelenzang was revealed by Juno Dijkshoorn, the make-up artist for this photo.

Georgette Koning

In the 1980s Ms Koning (graduated as fashion-designer) designed bags, she had her own label called ‘Pearls for Swans’. She also designed for large(r) companies, such as for example; Thierry Mugler. Konings made a careerswitch in 1995 and started writing for several newspapers, such as the Dutch Qualitätszeitung NRC Handelsblad, and magazines such as Avantgarde and Vogue Italia. She has her own on-line magazine as well it’s named Independent Fashion Daily, which is written in Dutch only, unfortunately.

Mirror Mirror is available at bookstores and at of course at Athenaeum in Amsterdam where the magazine will have a feature shopwindow in April 2019.

FashionWeek NL: Collectie Arnhem 2017

FashionWeek NL: Collectie Arnhem 2017

On Thursday Jan. 26 Mimi Blogger Team went to see the presentation of Collectie Arnhem 2017: Freedom! Inconvenience! Madness! And a hard-boiled egg.

The third year students of Artez Arnhem Fashion Design came up with a surprisingly divers collection and presentation. In the color of a hard boiled egg: yellow, they indeed showed freedom and inconvenience. Models obiviously felt free in ‘sweatshirt’ tops and couldn’t walk at all in monumental trousers (just naming the extremes here). The latter is sheer madness od course!

The fact that our fashion-imagination instantly started translating the more ‘inconvenient’ designs into wearable clothes isn’t ‘madness’ at all! No, au contraire; it is exactly what you need if you own a fashion label: intelligent ideas, authenticity and crafstmanship (needless to say that includes pattern making etc.) seamlessly applyable to more wearable fashion design.
We would hire a student with those abilities right away. Leider/Unfortunately/Helaas/Malheuresement we don’t own a fashion label.

Lookbook Images were photographed by the designers, as part of the annual ‘Collectie Arnhem’ study project. So for the best images made of this collection visit Collectie Arnhem’s Facebook, Instagram or site.

Each year again the ‘Collectie Arnhem’ production team manages to invite us to an unexpected place which we’ve never seen before! This year the fashion presentation was held at the newly opened NewWerktheater in Amsterdam, a build from the sixties which used to be a theater. A rather perfect location which will soon be opened for food and drinks (and more)
