The Gilded Palace of Sin

The Gilded Palace of Sin was recorded in 1969 by The Flying Burrito Brothers. The record sleeve is very hippie and trippy, so was the band for that matter. Anyways, special about this cover is that the suits are designed by Nudie Cohn, “the rodeo tailor”, Gram Parsons’ suit is the most famous one, it’s embellished with poppies, pills, marijuana leaves, and a large, religious, cross. The exhibition “Dreamsuits”; designs by Nudie Cohn, for the iconic Belgian entertainer Bobbejaan Schoepen.

Because of the fact that we are huge Nudie Cohn fans, Mimi Blogger Team was invited by Milou van Rossum, fashion journalist from one of Holland’s larger newspapers, to come with, to the interview she had with Mari MacKenzie, the curator of this exhibition and the author of Dreamsuits; The wonderful world of Nudie Cohn.

The boots, the shine and glamour…kaboom! Still, when I see his designs I really get exited. Although his style, or western boots for that matter, are not “en vogue” as we speak. I certainly would walk around in them, I surely would, every day, every hour!

Nudie Cohen passed away in 1984, his famous, beautiful shop closed in 1995.
Yours truly once visited this shop in West-Hollywood in the seventies of the previous century, I could have spend an entire day there.
