Victorine Müller Performance Artist

Victorine Müller Performance Artist

Frau Müller, from Switzerland, performs in her own sculptures which are made of transparent PVC. Below  you can see Victorine sitting in an elephant and standing in a foot with ankle. We, at Mimi Berlin, have never see her perform but these images are breathtajking…..

Stepping inside a pvc sculpture…

We are not sure if we will ever see one of Victorine M¨¨llers performances, we could’t find much new information on her on the interweb…… (images via beautifuldecay.comdesignboom.com)

Mina & T. Thielemans Live

Mina and T. Thielemans Live

Toots Thielemans (29 April 1922 – 22 August 2016) has passed away. So let’s remember him today. Altough our alltime favorite tune with Mr Thielemans on harmonica is the theme from Midnight Cowboy, the performance below isn’t bad either, au contraire!

(Danke schön J de G for sharing)

Jef Montes Tormenta Experience

Jef Montes Tormenta Experience

Since Jef Montes graduated in 2012 (at ArtEZ Arnhem) Mimi Berlin became interested in his work, so we have been following him. Montes presented an “Experience” at Amsterdam Fashion Week July 6th, 2016, which we unforntunately were unable to attend. That is really a shame because last season (read that here) we imagined Jef Montes doing just what he did: give a performance, experimenting on his fabrics and working on his creations, live with an audience.
We can’t write about his “Tormenta Experience” ’cause we weren’t there but we think it’s a very gutsy move!
Since this “experience” was also a preview on his next collection: Tormenta, we only can wait for that show. In the meantime we have to leave y’all with the images above, made by Team Peter Stigter, and a link to the site of Jef Montes.

Nick Cave: Here Hear

Nick Cave: Here Hear

The solo exhibition Nick Cave: Here Hear opened Last week-end, July 20, 2015, at the Cranbrook Art Museum.

Next to the main exhibition at the Cranbrook Art Museum, the museum and the greater city of Detroit also host a series of free city-wide public performances and staged events running through October. Those “Here Hear” events kicked off April 10 with several pop-up photo shoots where Nick Cave performs in one of his Soundsuits. (Read more at http://observer.com/2015/03/nick-cave-invades-detroit-prompts-citywide-reawakening/#ixzz3dWvztCVu ) Because Mr Cave is also trained as a dancer with Alvin Ailey, we’d like to mention the Nick Cave Dance Labs, one amongst other upcoming events: From July 13 to August 1, the Cranbrook Art Museum partners with MOCAD to present three dance labs designed by Nick Cave. Mr Cave will pair local dance companies with musicians to create their own choreographed works with his sculptures. The performances will be staged in locations throughout the city of Detroit. Nick Cave was raised and educated in Detroit and now he’s turning the city upside-down! Needless to say we are going to visit Detroit in a while! It’s a must-see in our opinion.

Vanessa Beecroft

Vanessa Beecroft

“Vanessa Beecroft‘s work addresses conceptual concerns as well as aesthetic concerns. Her performance art is often large scale and often involves live female models, often nude. At her performances, video recordings and photographs are made, to be exhibited as documentation of the performances, but also as separate works of art. She sets up a structure for the participants in her live events to create their own ephemeral composition. The performances are existential encounters between models and audience, their shame and their expectations. Each performance is made for a specific location and often references the political, historical, or social associations of the place where it is held. Beecroft’s work is deceptively simple in its execution, provoking questions around identity politics and voyeurism in the complex relationship between viewer, model and context.” (read more here)

Vanessa Beecroft has been warmly welcomed by the fashion industry since she showed  her performance art at the Guggenheim in 1998, and put the models/performers in Gucci bathing suits, she worked for Vogue, Wallpaper, Adidas
