Milan Designweek 2018 Japan Creative ABCD Elements

ABCD Elements

‘Japan Creative’ (JC for short) has 3 new projects on show in Milan during Designweek 2018. The one we really like, is named JC21 a.k.a. the ABCD Elements. These soft seaters are the result of the collaboration between Japanese craftsman TAKEYARI and British designer Faye Toogood. Not only is this design very stunning, it is also a sustainable one, ànd witty! There is a 70’s feel to them, but it isn’t overpowering; the ABCD Elements are designs which have the easy-going and friendly vibe from the 1970s. At least that’s how we, at Mimi Berlin, feel about this design.

These stunning seaters, or cushions, can be seen until the 22nd of April, 2018 at Palazzo Litta on the Corso Magenta 24 in Milan.

The Boat is Leaking The Captain Lied The Exhibition

The Boat is Leaking The Captain Lied The Exhibition

Is a long title for the transmedia exhibition project by Alexander Kluge, Thomas Demand, Anna Viebrock and curator Udo Kittelmann. The Boat is Leaking. The Captain Lied. is situated in Ca’ Corner della Regina, the 18th century Palazzo which houses Fondazione Prada in Venice. Having such a wonderful backdrop must have been very inspiring for the artists; we feel this installation (built throughout the 3 floors of the palazzo) was custom made. It is, as always, hard for us to write about art because we feel you have to experience it for yourself. But we will try: because we think this exhibition was lovely, and that fact needs to be shared!

We are no art critics, just art lovers and furthermore we are basic art-consumers: We love to just watch and let our minds go free (intuition) and enjoy. This is one of the reasons we liked this exhibition (and then some, at the Venice Biennale) The Boat is Leaking. The Captain Lied is divided into several rooms, or spaces and settings. Walking through the installations we felt like explorers: being curious about what’s next. The artists also made sure that you were part of the backstage situation. All together: pure instant gratification. Find out what you should know about The Boat is Leaking. The Captain Lied. HERE at the FP site.

Alessandro Rabatti’s Artworks Made with Money

Alessandro Rabatti’s Artworks Made with Money

Quoting the artist himself: “In 2011 a personal artistic journey began for me which led me to explore the economic crisis and how to fight it with creativity.”

Facebank by by Alessandro Rabatti
“Facebank’ is an artistic project which combines icons of the world economy with icons of the comic world, born from the necessity to give a face to a faceless power that is more and more characterized by a disarming loss of faith from the general public” >read/see more

Reflections by Alessandro Rabatti
“This project explores the topic ‘economic crisis’ from a different and thought-provoking perspective. The application of the concept behind the Rorschach inkblot test to the designs on dollar bills gives reason to think about capitalism in a creative manner.” >read/see more

Flowering Transition: Monster Flower

Flowering Transition: Monster Flower 2014 by artist Marcin Rusak. Longer vase life, better smell, less light blocking bacteria carrying leaves, more saturated colour, available year round for all occasions, cheaper, controlled stem sizes for easier harvesting, shipping requirement tolerant, packing efficient floral structures. This wish list, though sometimes contradictory, is a small part of all the demands we want from flowers. The decision making process, once controlled by nature, was taken over by numerous parties from the cut flower industry chain. Growers, retailers, regulators, and clients, with the help of technology, redesigned and engineered flowers for their own needs. This speculative project, looking further into the future of genetics and imagining where this path could lead, tries to incorporate all of the requirements that we have for flowers while questioning if this is really what we want them to be. Marcin Rusak worked  with Andreas Verheijen, Flower Engineer and Ignazio Genco, 3D Sculptor for the Flowering Transition: Monster Flower project
