Vorm-Fellows-Attitude by Gelitin

Vorm-Fellows-Attitude

Dear Diary,

Yesterday we went to Museum Boijmans in Rotterdam to see the exhibition Vorm-Fellows-Attitude by Gelitin (a group of four artists from Vienna, Austria. The group was formerly known as Gelatin and changed their name in 2005.) which was opened last weekend. We, at Mimi Berlin, had a really good time! First we got to pick out an outfit from the rack filled with abstract nude suits. You can imagine that we were already thrilled! The garments were actually quite nice, design-wise. All suited up we made some selfies, everybody did, and went into the main room. The large space is filled with 4 or so, giant turds (a lump of excrement) laid on Persian carpets. So, imagine people walking in these suits in between under and behind those brown sculptures (which were quite realistic, material-wise). We could not stop laughing, honestly, we had SO much fun!

xoxo Mimi

PS

At the end of the day all the suits were sprayed, not sure with what, maybe an odor killer or sanatising product.

Poop-cock-and-tits fun

Of course there is a deeper meaning behind all the poop-cock-and-tits fun. Read what Gelitin has to say about that below, or just go visit the Vorm-Fellows-Attitude show and find out for yourself, which is always the best thing to do, in our opinion.

People at Hyperrealism Sculptures in the Kunsthal

Hyperrealism Sculptures

Mimi Berlin Blogger Team visited the ‘Hyperrealism Sculptures’ exhibition at the Kunsthal in Rotterdam the other day. This is a show with all kinds of sculptures of human beings, chosen from the last 6 decades or so. The exhibition is divided into themes. Some sculptures are life-sized and very realistic, some are larger than life, some are distorted and some are small.

People and Human Replica’s

Besides that it’s interesting to see these iconic sculptures in real life, another fun part of the exhibit is to watch the visitors and imagine they are part of the show. Just set yourself down somewhere and you’ll get a surrealist vibe at the same time as the realistic one!

Dimensions

Out of proportion, or playing with dimensions was a presentation-theme. Above ‘larger than life’ sculptures, on the left, Zharko Basheski’s ‘Ordinary Man’ and the 5 meters long ‘It’s a Girl’ by artist Robert Meuck.

Telling stories with exact human replica’s and props like cardboard boxes, by Peter Land and a white horse and bed by Tobias Schalke. The work by Maurizio Catelan speaks for itself, don’t you think?

Unrealistic

Pop-art on show: sculptures which are very unrealistic, in our view.

We are big fans of the genre, so we were delighted to see the Refrigerator sculpture (2002, from an edition of 6. Produced by The Galerie Mourmans, The Netherlands) by Allen Jones, which is amazing! Also the ‘Chiquita Banana‘ girl by Mel Ramos (made in an edition as well, 2007) was one of our favorites. A wonderful work we’ve never seen in real-life before either is the pink-ish sculpture of a pregnant woman named ‘Beverly Edmier, 1967′, made by Kevin Edmier in 1998.

This exhibit has lot’s of sculptures which are true icons made by, for example, hyperrealistic pioneer Duane Hanson. After your visit you certainly will be more knowledgeable about the  sculpted, human body in modern art. Kunsthal Rotterdam, until July 1st.

Goodbye Daan van Golden at Museum Boijmans van Beuningen

Goodbye Daan van Golden at Museum Boijmans van Beuningen

Less than a month ago, on January 9, Dutch artist Daan van Golden passed away. In Van Golden’s memory museum Boijmans van Beuningen (in Rotterdam) staged a temporary presentation for his family and friends to bid the artist a worthy farewell. A small selection of his impressive oeuvre can be seen in the Serra Gallery till February 19, 2017. (Read more at www.boijmans.nl)

This weekend on Saturday February 4, the day on which Daan van Golden would have celebrated his 81st birthday, the family was at the presentation. Mimi Berlin Blogger Team went to offer condolences in person. And Yes we took snaps. Snaps?! you ask of us. Yes we did, sometimes one doesn’t know what do in a situation because of the sadness or just beacause you are stunned, and then you just take snaps…..At least we, at Mimi Berlin do. (We have been taken snaps at even more sad occassions than this one, which we never will post because they are too private or awkward, but we feel we can post these series; in memory of Mr van Golden.) Goodbye Daan van Golden.
Thank you Mr & Mrs. J.

Drawings by Peter Jeroense

Drawings by Peter Jeroense

The exhibition Drawings by Peter Jeroense is Mimi Berlin’s Top Tip for this week-end. It is the last chance to see this work.

We saw Peter’s drawings for the first time for real (not printed or digital) and we were truly stunned! We suggest you go to Robert van Oostrom Gallery in Rotterdam and see for yourself!
