Bijenkorf Amsterdam Personal Shopping

Bijenkorf

The Bijenkorf (Beehive in Dutch) is the oldest and most high-end luxury department store in The Netherlands. One year ago they added a premium service: shopping with personal assistance. It was long overdue and about time for Mimi Berlin Blogger Team to finally shop with one of the personal shoppers at The Bijenkorf in Amsterdam.

Suits

We must say we had a lovely experience. First, our personal shopper, Ms Kranenborg, took us onto the “floor” in search of a suit for the male party of our Blogger Team. After a while the choice was narrowed down to 3 suits, which were brought to the special, very large and comfortable, dressingroom or so-called lounge (decorated entirely in pink and brown tones) on the second floor. During fittings the female part of our team got to sit down on the couch and eat cookies. After we decided upon the purchase there was champagne ànd an experienced team of tailors! Continue reading

The Sephora Store in Barcelona is really, really nice: the entrance on street-level is the MOST entertaining! Red escalators, an opportunity to entrance the store via a slide (not on film) abstract movies projected everywhere, many mirrors, cute boys and loud music!

High-End Entertainment at Le Bon Marché Rive Gauche

High-End Entertainment at Le Bon Marché Rive Gauche

High-End entertainment while shopping; A visit to Le Bon Marché Rive Gauche during fashionweek 2016 in Paris is fun!

Iris in Paris; For this exhibition Ms Apfel came up with 10 moments such as; “a visit to the museum” or “on a terrace”. These moments include an outfit and a short movie. The small exhibition is accompanied by items that are for sale; Iris Apfel produced a capsule collection of objects in collaboration with different brands. Giant necklaces and bracelets designed by Luc Kieffer, a fur bag designed by Iris Apfel herself, huge sunglasses and more “Apfel-like-accessories”. For a friendly price you can also buy yourself some merchandise produced by Le Bon Marché; a mug, notebooks, umbrella’s or an “Iris in Paris” Bag. The exhibition can be seen on the groundfloor of the world’s oldest department store. (Feb.26/April16/2016).

In January 2016 artistic director, Frédéric Bodenes, invited Chinese artist Ai Weiwei to exhibit at Le Bon Marche. Mr Weiwei created 22 delicate, symbolic animals out of paper (or is it silk?) and bamboo. They hang, very tasteful, from the ceiling of, and in, the open escalator spaces of the department store. They give a fairytale-like experience when you pass them going up and down the escalators; and POOF before you know it you’ll be swiping your credit card!

X Bank Amsterdam is Open

X Bank Amsterdam is Open

Yesterday (24/2/2016) we attended the, long awaited, opening of the X Bank Store and Gallery in Amsterdam. The X Bank is the store ( or “‘creative incubator’ concept space”) of the fairly new W Amsterdam hotel; The X Bank is situated across the street from the hotel next to the hotel-restaurant The Duchess. The concept store has two entrances; one in the Spuistraat 174, via the gallery and one via The Duchess. This conglomerate of Stag Europe can be found just behind the Dam square, we don’t need to tell you that’s a top AA+ location for any company……. The X Bank got it’s name from the former owner (1915-2013): the Kas Bank, a Dutch bank mainly dealing with pension funds, they moved their offices a couple of streets further. The W Amsterdam also added 66 rooms, a spa, a nightclub and a pool to the building. Anyways…..the building is precious; it’s a national monument designed, in 1908, by F.W.M. Poggenbeek. It’s re-designed by Office Winhov, restored by Hoek architectuur & restauratie, the interior is designed by BK architecture.

Okay back to the X Bank; this large store is filled to the rim (literally; don’t forget to check out the ceiling as well) with Dutch fashion, design and art. That’s the fun part of the concept; all products are made by Dutchmen/women; on stock are 180 brands,  established ones like Philips, Moooi, SuperTrash and Viktor & Rolf next to lesser known, smaller brands like By Brown (rain dresses), Eijk-Amsterdam (shoes) and Mimi Berlin (yes, us!). Products range from fashion to bicycles to alcohol, teapots, underwear, cupboards, face massagers, books, art, vases, cushions and much much more (but no liquorice..or maybe we just didn’t see that?) Since the shop carries 180 brands you can probably wander around at the X Bank for hours. Come to think of it; you can spend a complete day, if you break for lunch at The Duchess. Open from 10:00 AM to 10:00 PM. Spuistraat 174, Amsterdam.

We took more pictures, we posted them facebook.
