Roller Derby for Girls

Roller Derby for Girls

Roller Derby is a contact sport played by two teams of five members roller skating in the same direction around a track, they have all kinds of matches whilst doing so. Basically one of the teams needs to be the fastest; the players are very rough with each other in order to accomplish a win. Roller skating marathons became populair in the 1930s, just like the dance marathons. Roller Derby is a sport with a high entertaiment value; the same kind the american wrestling matches have.

Balenciaga’s Spring-Summer Collection for 2018

Balenciaga’s Spring-Summer Collection for 2018

About a month ago it was fashion-week in some parts of the world. Fresh women’s wear collections for Spring/Summer 2018 were presented once again. Balenciaga showed in Paris. Below the most demure looks of the pret-a-porter show. One of our favorites because these outfits really seem to be an instant a holiday-trip to us!
Greetings from Amsterdam,
xoxo Mimi

Worth mentionable is the fact that Balenciaga asked the Crocs brand if they could produce a platform shoe. They could. Result: the ‘Foam’ shoes, lightweight-odor-free-water-resistant-fully-molded-platform-Crocs in Croslite™ material.

According to Highsnobiety blog the Balenciaga Triple S sneaker was the most spotted sneaker on the feet of the audience. (See that street-style sneaker report here at highsnobiety.com it’s fun!) We wonder if the Foam platforms will be equally popular, what do you think?

THE FLOTUS FOOTWEAR FAILURE

THE FLOTUS FOOTWEAR FAILURE

Our Day is a good day when it becomes apparent to the world how important ‘fashion’ is. So yesterday we actually had a good one; thanks to the choice of footwear by the first lady of the USA. #shoegate

FLOTUS was wearing black patent reptile leather high heels by (supposedly) Manolo Blahnik. Nothing wrong with that, she always wears them, we hear you say. Well everything is wrong with that very poor desicion because she and her husband were visiting Corpus Christi in Texas, nearby the catastrophic situation caused by hurricane Harvey.

The pumps caused a frenzy on the internet, in fact her entire outfit became a thing of importance. The fact that she changed into another outfit in the plane didn’t came unnoticed either. You would think it is a futile thing to talk about her shoes during this disaster but it’s not. It is safe to assume that her clothes are picked out meticulously by a team of stylists, after all Melania Trump communicates more through appearance rather than speech. For a trip to a disaster area ‘they’ chose to communicate being cute before being concerned (or anything else, like being helpful for instance.) Ms Trump’s look was so out there, that it stole the news from the devastation hurricane Harvey left behind. Continue reading

History of Stan Smith: The Sneaker

History of Stan Smith: The SneakerHistory of Stan Smith: The Sneaker

Stan Smith was a world-class tennis player. He got his own tennis shoe from/by Adidas in 1973 (that’s the one on top of the tree, see image above). Since then the sneakers have been kept alive by means of re-vamping. In 2014 Pharell Williams got his own StanSmithSneakers (with a debossed Pharrell Williams logo on the heel) also in 2014, Raf Simons got his. (the Raf Simons StanSmithSneakers have a perforated “R” on the side and a debossed “Raf Simons” logo on the back of the shoe) We, at Mimi Berlin, would categorize these sneakers as Silent Screamers because of the subtle detailing; only visible to the eye of a connaisseur (images courtesy of Adidas, collage/family tree by Mimi Berlin)
