Urban History of Amsterdam

The archaeological finds of the North / Southline in Amsterdam

During the excavation of soil for the North/South Metro line an archaeological research-team was created, they found a massive collection of 665,412 man-made objects. From 18 century nails and jewelry to spoons from the 1980s. Some of these objects are on display at Station Rokin, the complete collection can be found online at belowtheservice.amsterdam

In 2004 the digging started for a new metro line in Amsterdam, the North/Southline, it was finished in july 2018. It ‘s a short line of only 9,7 km long, but it runs under water from Central Station to the Nortern part of the city. That’s why it’s quite functional, because without a car you could only reach Amsterdam Noord by ferry-boat or bus.

Anyways you vcan view the complete collection online and play with it. Like we did above. That’s all for today! Have a nice one! xoxo Mimi

Young in Prison (YiP) celebrates its 15th anniversary in Amsterdam

Young in Prison, YiP for short, is an international foundation that enables children and young people in conflict with the law to contribute positively to society through creative and sports development programmes, in prison and after release. Since 2002 YiP has been working with young prisoners, leading to the development of the COPOSO method: Contributing Positively to Society. COPOSO is based on the values of positivity, creativity, equality, inspiration, transparancy and honesty. YiP works on a personal level with young people and provides high energy workshops.

Young in Prison created a program in order to celebrate it’s 15th anniversary on October the 7th at Paradiso Noord in Amsterdam. This day starts with the annual YiPArt photo auction at 16:00 and ends with a party, with loads of (live) music until 03:00.

Lichting 2017 Fashion Design Award goes to Lizzy Stuyfzand

Lichting 2017 Fashion Design Award goes to Lizzy Stuyfzand

Yesterday (7/14/2017), on the second day of Amsterdam Fashionweek (MBFWA) Mini Berlin Blogger Team went to see the Lichting show (the annual contest for 14 graduating Dutch fashion design students) Lizzy Stuyfzand was the winner of the Lichting Award, for most promising talent, which is €10,000! Congratulations!! Ms Stuyfzand graduated last month at ArtEZ Arnhem with her menswear collection “Call me magpie” (see more about that here on this blog)

The second award, €3000; is ‘The Audience’s Favorite’ went to Sarah Bruylant of AMFI. The students participated to this lovely show were: Roos Boshart, Rachael Cheong, Annebel de Kok, Miro Hämäläinen, Karlijn Krijger and Ninamounah Langestraat (read more about them here lichting.nl) The winners truly deserved the prices they got, but we also rooted for Ninamounah Langestraat (Gerrit Rietveld Academy) her part of the Lichting show really stood out to us because of it’s very strong personality. Congratulations to all students; we wish you the best in your careers! xoxo Mimi
