Milan Design Week 2018 Cubism

Cubism in Interior Design

Next to many round and friendly interior design we also noticed some cubist inspired decor. Not that much, but we feel it could well be the next trend. It almost has to be, because all the ‘Barbapapa’ furniture design you can think of has already been made, for a couple of seasons, by all brands at this point.

These four are the most evident examples of design, leaning towards Cubist shapes: Carpet from Moroso/ Mural by Siri Carlén for Lammhults / Motorcycle Samotracia Mario Trimarchi for De Castelli / Mirror from ClassiCon.

ARTIST FIRST Paper Only: The Exhibition in Amsterdam

ARTIST FIRST Paper Only: The Exhibition in Amsterdam

Artist First, Paper Only is an exhibition at Boeske Projects in Amsterdam. This group exhibition, including drawings, installations and special contributions, opened yesterday and can be seen through the 4th of November 2017.

(A small panorama made by Mimi Berlin at ARTIST FIRST, Paper Only: The Exhibition )

Recapping it all a tiny nutshell
Like the title says; Artist First is created (read all about that on the site) to make the artist important again (as opposed to the modern-day importancy of curators, trends, status, money etc.) and to show the “expressive power of the individual artwork—and with it, the artist’s autonomous position” (quote via Edo Dijksterhuis at artslant.com)

We, at Mimi Berlin think The Artist First, Paper Only is an exhibition which is certainly worth your visit!

Mimi Berlin Blogger Team visited the opening and took some Party-Snaps. See those HERE

Unseen Photo Fair in Amsterdam 2016

Unseen Photo Fair in Amsterdam 2016

Mimi Berlin Blogger team went to the annual Unseen Photo Fair in Amsterdam. We had a great time! Being the childish team we are: we picked our favorite works to show you. Maybe you have other images you like better? You won’t know unless you visit the fair. We suggest you do. find all info here on the unseen site

We have to be honest; we also took pictures of less favorite works because the urge and our ability to categorize themes and trends very quick, took overhand sometimes.

Resort 2016 Fashion Shows: Looks

Resort 2016 Fashion Shows: Looks

Black and white (Minimal und Frilly)

Pastel (Frilly und Minimal)

Checks and minimals (Clean und Romantic)

Flowers (Romantic und Clean)

Decisions, Decisions.
We chose one favorite look from (almost) every designer showing the Resort 2015 season, featured on vogue.com, and tried to incorporate as many brands as possible, choosing one look only.

Why? Sometimes it’s good to test yourself. We think it’s important to see what happens when you approach things differently than you’re used to. So we zoomed in on the runway Looks instead of the complete collections, like we normally do. Funny thing is; this way we come up with only “usual-suspect” trends: boring! We did look at designers we have never seen before, that’s less boring but also very time consuming, and we all know time=money 😉
Conclusion: We will never again let go of our experience and knowledge about fashion trends, brands and designers. The way we spot our trends is the right way and the fun way!

Normcore/Healthgoth/Athleisure

Normcore/HealthGoth/Athleisure

Last year’s fashion trends/Moutarde après le Repas. According to Dazed Magazine Normcore, Healthgoth and Athleisure were the top 3 most googled buzzwords in 2014. These hybrid words describe fashion trends, which have in common that they aren’t just trends but a lifestyle. Or so they are described if they are to be explained.

But we all know they ARE fashion trends.

Normcore is a unisex fashion trend characterized by unpretentious, average-looking clothing. “Normcore” is a portmanteau of the words “normal” and “hardcore”. The word first appeared in webcomic Templar, Arizona before 2009 and was later employed by K-Hole, a trend forecasting group, in an October 2013 report called “Youth Mode: A Report on Freedom” (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Normcore) A subculture based on conscious, artificial adoption of things that are in widespread use, proven to be acceptable, or otherwise inoffensive. Ultra-conformists.(http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=normcore) Meet Norma Normcore (http://www.vogue.co.uk/news/2014/03/21/normcore-fashion-vogue—definition)

Health Goth is an aesthetic revolving around biotechnology, monochrome sportswear, fetish culture, extreme cleanliness, and rendered environments. Healthgoth has roots in “street goth” but focuses on trans-humanism, Net art, technical sportswear, bionic body parts, combat gear and an understanding of whole body and mental health. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Health_goth) Originated, April 2013 by the Healthgod Community on Facebook (https://www.facebook.com/healthgothofficial/timeline) Health Goth Is More Than A Fashion Trend (http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2014/10/17/health-goth-clothing-fitness-trend_n_5999482.html) More mainstream at healthgoth.com; encourages physical fitness, DIY culture, is anti corporate worship and idleness (http://www.healthgoth.com/)

Healthgoth is the new Athleisure (http://www.style.com/trends/fashion/2014/2015-fashion-trends-health-goth) But it seems to us it’s a friendlier version of healthgoth for the masses.

Athleisure of course defines the mix of high-fashion and high-performance sportswear. or; wear your fitness gear to work. Beyoncé and Topshop Team-Up For Ath-leisure Brand. In Topshop London for Fall 2015 (http://wwd.com/fashion-news/intimates-activewear/beyonc-to-collaborate-with-topshop-8004014/) Why you will soon be wearing gym-ready gear even if you don’t want to work out (http://www.theguardian.com/fashion/2015/jan/01/athleisure-beyonce-topshop-style-trend-gym-ready-gear)

Just so you know, and can be ready for the next “I’ts-a-lifestyle-trend”
