Moooi at Milan Design Week 2019

Moooi, A Life Extraordinary

Moooi is presenting at a new location this year, to be exact the Mediateca Santa Teresa building, situated at the via della Moscova 28 in the Brera Design district. Also brand new are two new Moooi designs. The BFF Sofa designed by Marcel Wanders and The Party, lamps by Dutch designer-duo Kranen/Gille. The lamp is hard to be missed at the venue; it is made in ceramics in the shape of a face and comes in many, mucho varieties. The newest Moooi couch is harder to get a glimpse of, because the visitors are lounging and even sleeping on it. (FYI; We visited at the end of the day.)

According to Moooi’s PR; Luxurious, Whimsical and Original are main keywords for this presentation. We, at Mimi Berlin, think they are right.

Foam Wall Coverings

It’s the first time we noticed the interesting ‘Extinct Animals Collection‘ a collection of soft foam-like, 3D wallcoverings in different patterns (as you can see in the images we took above; in brique, in a pattern that’s named ‘Dwarf Rhino’) These walls remind us of the old-fashioned wallpaper often used in hotels and kitchens in the seventies, they cover unevenness very well. We think it’s a smart move to present it as being luxurious!

Moooi Tokyo Blue

Downstairs you can find the presentation ‘Moooi Tokyo Blue’: everything in indigo blue also furniture in a slightly Japanese setting: workshops with denim and (smelly) dyed leather are on show here as well. A collaboration with Amsterdam Jeans city, ECCO Leather and Shin-Denim and Moooi.

Studio visit in Milan, Tortona area

Today we visited the Traviganti Metal workshop in Milan. A large place with lots of interesting machine’s. Craftsmen make all kinds of metal objects, functional items such as beer taps and vases and less functional object such as larger than life Fabergé eggs, robots, horses with Swarovski stones, and other useless luxurious stuff. Amazing! It was a true joy to visit this studio. This workplace isn’t very tidy, the work is.

Mimi Berlin made a presentation on Travaganti and the Salone di Mobile in Milan 2011, for OPA Designcafé, of May 2011; Arnhemilano travigantissimo. Graphic Designer Igor Teuwen used our Images for his poster design announcing this presentation.
