Elisa Bonaparte, or more accurate and in full; Marie Anne Elisa Bonaparte Baciocchi Levoy (1777-1820) Princess of Lucca and Piombino and the Grand Duchess of Tuscany (1805-1815) was a younger sister of Napoleon. If you’re interested in that long and acurate name click HERE to find out more about her family life. Elisa was actually a political ruler, click HERE if you want to know the ins and outs about that.
Fascinating drinking cup
In this post we would like to elaborate on the love Elisa B. had for the arts and we want to focus especcially on a cup she used to drink from. This fascinating cup came in the shape of her own head and it was made by the Doccia porcelain manufactory, founded by Carlo Ginori. This little cup has been reproduced since ages, up until nowadays in biscuit porcelain. Next to drinking from her own head, Elisa B. also, at one point ordered twelve lifesize busts of her own image, made from Carrera marble, which was her property since the town is situated in Tuscany. We, at Mimi Berlin, have to dig deeper into that history some other time ’cause we’ve seen much more of her face on several items.
In the Netherlands this little cup is available only at the Mek store in Amsterdam, thhahanks to Gerard van Riel from Mek for telling us this story.
At the 2019 Fashion Show of ArtEZ Arnhem, during the presentation of Birgit Steinbusch‘ collection ‘Abdominoplasty’, we really had to think of one of our all-time favorite images by Irving Penn; could not get it out of our mind. Penn’s photo ‘foot care’ was made in 1990 for Vogue Magazine.
Okay, we reminded ourselves once again that what we vizualie in our minds, always works in real life as well! Just that, that’s it for today. xoxo Mimi Berlin
Abdominoplasty or “tummy tuck” is a cosmetic surgery procedure used to make the abdomen thinner and more firm. The surgery involves the removal of excess skin and fat from the middle and lower abdomen in order to tighten the muscle and fascia of the abdominal wall. This type of surgery is usually sought by patients with loose or sagging tissues after pregnancy or major weight loss.
Joël Hubaut with hotdogs up his nose. Hubaut is a French artist. We, at Mimi Berlin, are interested in his work. But today we don’t have the stamina to look it up on the interweb. However, we can share his portrait, and we do hope that your day is a nice day! xoxo Mimi
Obviously this post is a reminder, a note to self.

Mimi Berlin’s logo has itchy feet as well, they are illustrated by Mathilde Admiral
Once in a while your eyesight needs to be checked. Visits to the optician become even more necessary when you grow older. It seems like the eyes grow tired of looking at things up-close, and they refuse to focus. We know that age-related eye changes are normal, so we don’t mind visititing the local eyeware store. Au contraire, everytime we visit it’s rather fun. Proof of that below, a portrait of Mimi Berlin by Mimi Berlin, both behind the ‘lenses’.
That’s all we wanted to share with y’all today. Have a nice one! xoxo Mimi Berlin
Both text and image found on the interweb: “Typical figure, showing tendency of student life – stooping head, flat chest, and emaciated limbs” – from an 1894 book titled The United States of America.” We, at Mimi Berlin, especially love the way the bodyparts are described!
