At the 2019 Fashion Show of ArtEZ Arnhem, during the presentation of Birgit Steinbusch‘ collection ‘Abdominoplasty’, we really had to think of one of our all-time favorite images by Irving Penn; could not get it out of our mind. Penn’s photo ‘foot care’ was made in 1990 for Vogue Magazine.
Okay, we reminded ourselves once again that what we vizualie in our minds, always works in real life as well! Just that, that’s it for today. xoxo Mimi Berlin
Abdominoplasty
Abdominoplasty or “tummy tuck” is a cosmetic surgery procedure used to make the abdomen thinner and more firm. The surgery involves the removal of excess skin and fat from the middle and lower abdomen in order to tighten the muscle and fascia of the abdominal wall. This type of surgery is usually sought by patients with loose or sagging tissues after pregnancy or major weight loss.
Mimi Blogger Team visited the ArtEZ Arnhem fashion show on June 7th, 2019 at 15.00 hrs, that was the first show out of 3 that day. The fashion design projects by 1st year students; “Vibration” and the 2nd year students; “Heimat” and Collectie Arnhem 2019; “Unlock, Becoming” were presented before the Nineteen (19) graduates showed their final collections. This spectaculair fashion show, with spatial design by Studio Dennis Vanderbroeck, happened at Musis Sacrum in Arnhem. As always, we made pictures for you, who could not be there, of the designs made by the graduates; see them below. Also, we filmed the finale. See that here on MimiMovies, Mimi’s YouTube Channel
ArtEZ Arnhem Finals 2019
All the students, from all disciplines, will show their work from July 3 through July 7th. At the fashion department you will find al the design portfolio’s, which are always a joy to the eye! (more info about that here; Open Fashion Studio | Generation 61)
Lichting 2019
If you missed this show, don’t worry! You have a second change during the annual ‘Lichting 2019‘ show. ArtEZ Fashion Design BA graduates Nina Liburd and Dylan Westerweel are nominated to enter this contest, alongside 2 students from each fashion design department of art-universities in the Netherlands.
Mimi Berlin Blogger Team went to see 3 fashionshows, held by art universities in The Netherlands. Edition 2019. We went to Arnhem, Amsterdam and The Hague. We also produced 3 Mimimovies for you. (In poor quality as always.) Have a look see how happy all the students are! We feel that’s one of the most beautiful parts of student-fashion-shows.
It’s that time of the year again: Collectie Arnhem 2019 is launched. Mimi Berlin Blogger Team went to see the fashion show at Loods 6 in the capital city of The Netherlands; Amsterdam. The images made for the 21st edition of Collectie Arnhem are promising already! We placed them below, what do you think? Nice, n’est pas! The show itself lived up to that promise for sure.

Lights, Music and Action
Tthe concrete hallway of Loods 6 was lit in lilac and 4 huge ventilators were placed in the middle. There were no chairs to be found, only black plastic square packages of, what we think was hay; for V.I.P’s to sit on. The ventilators were slowly rolled to the back of the runway and then it was time for: Lights, Music and Action. The rather graphic image of the back-lighted ventilators was maintained during the show; highlighting the silhouettes of the designs in full force black, like they should be. The (mostly) geometrical silhouettes had in common that they all were fashionably elongated (which is always a joy to the eye). To illustrate the effect it had on us, at Mimi Berlin: at one point KKK outfits, a Grobbebol and a Pierrot came to mind at the same time. Fun!
See the MimiMovies production below to get the image with that text!
Concept and Design
As for the story behind the concept and designs we suggest you read the folder, it’s very accurate and we couldn’t desribe it better ourselves. That seems lazy, but it is not. You must know that the average texts about fashion collections are an embellished, or even nonsensical, version of what you get to see. Not in this case, it is all the truth including the opening story. All 20 students and 3 tutors (Rens de waal, Lenn Cox and Dennis van der Broeck) spent a weekend together to create the footprint for the Unlock, Becoming Collectie Arnhem. And as always, we suggest you see the designs for yourself, that’s always the best way to get in the know! To read on, just click the first image below.
No worries if you missed the fashion show because you have a second chance to see all the creations made by the third year students at the annual ArtEZ graduation fashion show this summer in June. We aren’t sure if you get to feel the same magic in another space but, hey, getting a second chance is always nice.
Collectie Arnhem is a collective project in which third-year students of the Fashion Design bachelor at ArtEZ University of the Arts collaborate to develop, design and present a cohesive fashion collection. This project offers a laboratory-style environment where students research and explore diverse aspects of the process and the profession; questioning what fashion is and proposing what fashion can be. The project culminates in a fashion presentation to a professional audience, organized by the students themselves. Collectie Arnhem is made possible with the support of the ArtEZ University of the Arts and the Made in [Arnhem] campaign. Collectie Arnhem is initiated in 1999 by Alexander van Slobbe and Gisela Prager.
The fashion design students at ArtEZ Arnhem got to show their talent at the city theatre ‘Musis Sacrum‘. Featuring the collections of this year’s fashion graduates, 20 of them in total; 16 Bachelors and 4 Masters. Also including CollectieArnhem 2018, ànd work by the first- and second-year BA fashion students. We, Mimi Berlin Bloggerteam, (in particular Herr Kaldenbach) took (backstage) photo’s for y’all who could’t be there.

Projects by 1 + 2 + 3th year students
The Project ‘Biuqs’ designed by the first year students, executed in neon orange and (off)white only, opened the show. Second year students worked within the team ‘Fashion Galore’ presenting the results in an over-the-top, make-believe fashion-shoot. And the annual CollectieArnhem showed the 2018 version of the project for the second time this year.

Anniversary 60 + 20 =
This was the 60th fashion show held by the fashion department at ArtEZArnhem (university of the arts). And the 20 year anniversary of the ‘CollectieArnhem’ project.
ArtEZArnhem certainly succeeded to turn this show into a small celebration! Continue reading →
In October of each year, Dutch Design Week (DDW) takes place in Eindhoven. This year; 2017, it is held from 21-29 October. Mimi Berlin Blogger Team visited and reports to you; our readers. Let us start with one of our favorite presentations so far: in4nite (as in; infinite possibilities)
For the in4nite exhibition Low & Bonar (international marketleaders and producers of high-tech performance materials) invited 10 designers from Arnhem (productdesigners, architects and a graphic designer) to experiment with Colback®. Why only designers from Arnhem, you ask of us: well, just like Low & Bonar they all work at Industrial Park the ‘Kleefse Waard’ in Arnhem, they probably met up at the local canteen?!

Pleated Colback for the ‘Rilly Nice Lamp” by Erik Stehmann
Glass panels with burned Colback. The Ghost Collection by Charley Reijnders. In the back the work of Klaas Kuiken.
Lamps with shades made from Colback. ‘in4nite Shades’ by Klaas Kuiken
Mieke Lucia created acoustic panels made with Colback®, including the presentation of her ‘Color Colback® Research Palette’.
Colback used to create a plisseé material for chairs. ‘Pleated Seat’ by Joris de Groot
Graphic design on Colback by Dana Dijkgraaf
Anyways; Colback® is an overall brand name for a non-woven cloth-like material which is used to support technical fabrics used in transportation, interior carpeting, resilient flooring and for decorative solutions. (read more colback-nonwovens.com)
Since the Colback® “cloth” is never used as a visible material by itself we think it’s a smart move of Low & Bonar to invite designers who are trained to come up with products that are gentle to the eye (and brain). As L&B state themselves: “The ‘in4nite’ project enables Low & Bonar to provide relevant design solutions extrapolating the aesthetical and functional properties of the Colback Technology.”
After visiting the top floor of ‘Building TQ’, which is filled with the results, we guess L&R can say that they succeeded; most of the ‘reinventions’ and/or designs seemed useful and ready for production. We think a visit to the ‘in4nite’ exhibit is certainly worth your while! Continue reading →
